This was the mod at a premature stage, I used a corsair nautilus 500 watercooler that i had in the closet, and didn´t use anymore.
It is an external watercooler (bad thing about it) that might work for now. In the future i will build a custom watercooler with all parts placed inside of the case. I also had 2 old koolance vga waterblocks that are not made anymore by that company. I kept those 2 for an xbox360 watercooled project that I ended up never doing it. ![]() If you notice the metal bars in the bottom, i got those in a home depot kind of store, my goal was to make sure the motherboard does not bend... ever. This was because the holes for the heatsink in the ps3 are very bad, 2 holes for rsx and 2 holes for Cell, if you force one too much the motherboard starts to bend and you will break the ps3. I also used a RSX IHS (from a dead motherboard) and placed in top of the cell, now both Cell and RSX have the same height (another bad thing about the PS3). Its not in the picture but now the memory chips have a heatsink too. ![]() What you see here, is the only thing made of aluminum i found on a sunday morning, 2 aluminum bars from a drawer handle... from a home depot ![]() I did this because the koolance kit came with a crappy thing. ![]() Thanks to a friend that works with metals, i got a nice 30cmx30cmx30 and 1.5mm thick Aluminum Box, on the lower shelf im going to place the ps3 PSU, on the upper shelf a PC power supply ![]() ![]() This is the back part of the box, i had to do some holes for the PC PSU, ps3 PSU, hoses, HDMI, and back fan ...need to fix edges with a file tool tomorrow ![]() Front of the PS3 box, I havent decided yet what im going to do here, maybe cut a thin line for when the disc ejects, the thing is that i really dont use the BD-Drive anymore so maybe i will leave it like it is now. But maybe i should drill 2 holes for the power and eject buttons, or perhaps i will leave it as it is since i can power it with the joystic. USBs! i forgot those 2....im going to make them on the back of the case, or on one of the sides with a usb extender cable, i never liked the USBs on the front ![]() By the way, i runned this and as you know the latest multiman can give you the temperatures. I had RSX: 29 CELL: 33 after powering the PS3 played GOW3 for 20 minutes and went to multiman and gave me these temps: RSX:30 CELL:34 Im wondering if the temperature thing is working right :/ |

That's cool I guess but I would never do this. I don't feel like the trade-off is worth it. Better CPU temps at the cost of the PS3's overall appearance. Can't do it. To me it's an eyesore.

The reason i did this mod is because this ps3 slim chech-2501A was failing
![]() And i doubt the new slim model that just came out fixes all the problems with heat. |

Eyesore and takes up a ton of space. Would be best to do this with a 60GB. That way you get the awesome temps, low/Nonexistent YOLD rate, and PS2 playback... Amongst other features.

Nice work
bare in mind it's not all about the block/s, you need some good rads or you will not notice full potential of WC.

still needs some tweaks. by the way the only way to do a rear usb port was with an usb3.0 extend cable. if you use a 2.0 cable the hdd isnot powered enough

Hahahha, this is a cool modification. I played around with the Mm temp readings the other day, and even in the minifridge i couldnt get this temps (I stuck one of the old PS3s in the bar fridge to see what happens with the temp readings out of curiousity while black ops run). With the PS3 (opened) in the minifridge the temps went to around 57, outside it goes waaayyy higher.
But, i decided its more important to have the beer chilled, so the PS3 is back on top of the stand again. |
