Archos Gamepad, gameplay demo including the N64/NES emulator - YouTube


Several months ago Archos announced their new Gamepad would be available in late October, and this week we get our first look at the device. Nicolas Charbonnier of ARMdevices.net got to spend some quality time with the device and uploaded a seven minute video to YouTube.

We originally reported that the device might sell for under $200, and Nicolas says the final retail price could be $149. The Archos Gamepad features a 7-inch 1024×600 display, 1.5 GHz dual-core Cortex-A9 CPUs and Mali-400 GPU (Rockchip RK3066), 8GB of internal storage, microSD card slot (up to 64GB), WiFi and mini-HDMI connectivity, and it should run Android 4.1 at launch.

What really makes this tablet unique is the automatic game recognition and mapping tools – patented technology to ensure control compatibility with every advanced Android game. This allows you to manually assign physical buttons to the onscreen controls of Android games.

Overall, it looks like a pretty slick gaming device for only $149. The limited internal storage is disappointing, but at least Archos allows you to expand it with a microSD card.
