BD encryption Question - PS3Hax Network

I'm getting the BD Encryption error with blu ray movies and i know the only way to watch them is if I update. But I was wondering if installing linux would I be able to play movies or does the encryption directly on the blu ray drive itself and the disc cant be read.

The required AACS key is one of the self files and is updated roughly every 18 months.
I have no idea if you can playback Bluray in Linux or not.
