swap hard drives without losing data

hey guys i was wondering if there is a way that i can put my family ps3's 120gb hard drive into my 320gb ps3 without them losing there data?

the reason i want to do this is becuase that ps3 is downgradeable and the one im getting is not. i need there data to be safe so if i need to ill just copy all the **** of that drive top the 320 but i dont really want to lose all that storage space. is there an easy way to do this without loseing all the data? niether of these ps3s are hacked and my 16gb flash drive cant backup all the **** thats on that ps3

Use the backup utility on 1 ps3.

Then use the data transfer utility.

Then use backup utility to restore the one you backed up.

And make sure you do the backup utility on the one you are downgrading. So you can restore it after the downgrade. Since the downgrade formats the hdd.

Even with PS3 data transfer, you will then lose data on the PS3 recieving the data.
And some content can't be transferred.

If their PS3 was on CFW, you could then just copy the contents to a pc even using ftp, being you don't have a large enough USB drive.

1. use backup utility to backup each ps3. The only thing it doesn't backup is the trophies.
2. use data transfer to transfer from 320 to 120. assuming there is enough space
3. downgrade the 320, hdd will be formatted.
4. use backup utility to restore the backup for each console

This is assuming the stuff on the 320 will fit on the 120.

Or I have a better idea,

Downgrade the 320. ;P
If you do not even know if it is downgradable yet, I would worry about it after you find out.

He was saying in his first post he only has a 16GB flashdrive.

So he needs to get a larger USB drive, so he can do backups of both PS3.
