I've been mostly using it on my notebook at work. And I must say I like it a lot. Especially the control panel options as a ribbon in Windows explorer are nice. Networking is a bit faster in 8 and the os responds better in general.
I'm already used to use the new ui search function (like the start menu search in 7) to get to all my programs. It's a lot quicker than browsing the start menu in 7 to start a program.
I do miss the aero theme.

Been on it since RTM about 2 months ago...

It's REALLY bad.

I'm a heavy windows supporter to be honest and didn't talk trash about Vista and so on, but this is basically not designed for desktops. It demands a touch screen to be of any significant use, even then, it feels very dumbed down, there's a few extra new features over Windows 7 but there's a shed load that have been taken away or harder to use.

Maybe with time (XP was horrible at first also) but right now you are better off sticking with 7.

He summed it up pretty well
anyone saying it is good doesn't do much repair work. The way you have to access safe mode makes me want to throw a keyboard. I understand why it doesn't work as it used to though and it is crazy that I am *****ing about something that isn't working because the OS boots too fast. That is a positive for Win 8. It boots insanely fast (at least on my rig.) Windows 7 had Windows system image tool for recovery which has also been removed in favor of "file history"

I talk all this trash about Sony and how I will not be an early PS4 adopter, but if this showing of recent software releases is any type of glimpse at the future then MS is planning on boxing up a **** covered rabbid raccoon that will jump out of the box and eat you, your wife, and your children......they have a codename for it now called project Durango. I say that and I love the 360 and windows 7 but this new MS vision is well "WOW" for lack of a better word

My copy is activated and I can customize but I had to do a crazy trick to get that real aero look back.

Install a dock so you don't need the search function, I use the Directory opus dock but there are other docks like Objectdock or Rocketdock

@BobbyBlunt I use Directory Opus most of the time and for Opus it actually doesn't matter what version of Win it is running on because it integrates with windows. I only see my desktop a couple of times a day, for the rest it is the best windows program ever (makes sense because Dopus is an Amiga program originally) I see

I only think M$ rushed the release of Win8 to have it the same time as Apple's Mountain Lion. The product is not completely finished so we need to wait for useful updates... But I do like the price to be honest

I have Rocketdock installed actually, but I don't use it that much. Thanks for mentioning Directory Opus. I'll have a look at it and try it out... It reminds me a bit of Total Commander.

Regarding OSX, I've only had some experience with Leopard on my Mac Mini. I like the OS, because it's really functional. I'm not experienced with Unix based systems and I'm more comfortable with Windows registry, policies, batch commands and services. That's why I keep using MS OSes .

I only used the test version with the old windows look enabled, it was okay. I'll stick with Win7 x64 Ultimate for now.

It loads up faster than Windows 7. Great news.

This is the thing, people always moan about everything how it's not good or it just "sucks", but it's an opinion not a fact. Of course.

I've been using the Metro dashboard on Xbox 360 and so far it's really nice, so I'll be sure to enjoy Windows 8 too.

Currently I'm using Windows XP but I'm wanting to jump in to Windows 8, not right now, though.

windows 8 is good, the main thing that sucks is the forced metro on us.

if they had a option to just let us go using a normal start menu everyone will be happy.
