Sony has confirmed that its faithful black box has ceased production worldwide, following news last week of production coming to an end in Japan. Sony has confirmed to The Guardian that the end of production isn’t exclusive to Japan. The PlayStation 2 has been in production for 12 years and sold 150 million units worldwide, making it the best selling console in history–not a bad achievement. The PlayStation 2 brought many gamers hours of joy and will be sorely missed by millions. Rest in peace. How did the PlayStation 2 rate against all other consoles in your opinion? Let us know below.

I fired up my old PS2 a few months ago and I just couldn't get into it. It was slow, the fans were loud, and the graphics were real blurry on my HDTV. It's hard to believe this system was considered a graphical breakthrough in its day. I did enjoy it when it was considered the hottest console out though. I was addicted to Twisted Metal Black. I used to play that game everyday.

If you used standard RCA cable, than yes, maybe. If you want a nice picture on HDTV, then you have to use component cable.

Have you ever seen GT4 on 1080i resolution? Pure eyegasm. Not all games support that resolution ( only few actually), but most can get into Progressive scan mode, and get a fresh new look.

Here is my video of testing GT4, and recorded with Cell phone, but it still looks very good. For me, this is just amazing, since the console is over 10 years old.

Yeah that does look good. The game I tried out was Crash Bandicoot: Wrath of Cortex. I doubt it'll look as good as GT4 though.

But still, and specially japanese games, look pretty good even today.
