Yeah I don't do HP either but I did get a Gateway laptop. No problems there (decent price and great for simple word processing, web surfing, etc). I personally like alienware which is VERY expensive but by far a great computer. Windows would be your way to go.

Alienware is very expensive, heavy, fast.
Its a desktop replacement. Not a laptop for simple things like surfing, wordprocessing. . .

well I haven't really used a mac but you could install bootcamp onto it if you did get a mac then you could have windows xD

to be honest if its not getting heavy use its probably not worth paying the extra for a mac book when a cheaper windows based laptop can run everything you need it to, besides you can get modified versions of mac to run on standard pc hardware if you want to run osx.

I have been dealing with Windows since 3.1 up to Vista. I got an iphone a few months ago and I love it. If I could afford it I would get a mac. As far as programs go you are limited to what you can do. However, when I went to a computer store a month ago to pick up some parts, I was having a discussion with a clerk there. He said there is a program called parallel, or something like that. It runs the Mac OS then ontop of that it will Windows, so you run both OS's at the same time. Apparently, when it's working it is supposed to be great. He said he wasn't sure if it was done, but it's worth checking into. He said Windows is more stable on a Mac than a PC. Speaking of which, I hope someone finds a way to install a Mac OS on a PS3.

i vote for the mac, as you could have probably guessed from my old sig. but for your uses, i dont think its worth the extra money, unless you want to try what I'm doing and try to get it from a free laptop site or something. (if you want to go that way, PM me and ill send you my referral link, if not w/e)

otherwise, just go to your local retail store or something and pick up a $300 laptop

or you might want to look into the EEEPC that runs linux. from what i hear, its wicked cheap, light, small...probably perfect for your needs
