Questions about YLOD
Hi there.
Recently i tried to remove the thermal shield of my FAT ps3 CPU because i've changed the thermal compound two times but only on the processor i still got high temps like 80 Celsius. After a lot of time trying to remove the shield i gave up but now i have YLOD.I didn't actually penetrate the adhesive, (not even close) to reach the CPU die because i didn't got a proper tool. Turn PS3 green/amber light 10 seconds (a lot of time) short Yellow and the three beeps and red light flashing. The thing is i know that YLOD is related to RSX not CPU where i work on. I protected the motherboard with tape as i worked on CPU so i'm sure i've done no scratch on mobo. My PS3 was fine never got any YLOD or other errors in middle of games or something. What should i check? Where to look for a possible fix? Witch components are possible candidates for this error? Anyone? THX |

I have seen the dreaded YLOD after RSX reball and thought must have failed but turned out to be same fault on CPU.
Once cpu re-balled and fitted all good again so it can be the cpu causing YLOD. You have probably flexed the board just too much and broken the contact on either the cpu or gpu. Try a re-flow on both cpu & gpu and pray you didn't lift the pads on the board and see if it works. |
