Funny never knew this was the case - there is literally a game shop on every corner here in Shanghai and don't forget the internet cafe's where the youths play day and night....

Just an update since is getting hard to edit with more info the article. PS3 is available on greymarket on China that means that is more expensive than the original retail price. So for the ones asking or saying..how come? they have no PS3?. Yes they have, they can purchase it but the ban even lifted can bring serious problems since this issue has a long history background. Also they don't have official support from Sony if they buy the system. You got the *lenovo's case* that the product was labeled as something else and that's the only way that they can sell the product..but it's not *legal*. Sony probably will make his way on fall on 2013, plus it's unclear if the ban was lifted or not..many sources i checked are crossed opinions and no official statement. I was in Shanghai and many parts of China and i can certify that this is true. You can get it everywhere, but the main reason the youth is so ****ed up is because of MMO's among other social problems. Funny tough they can't sell PS3's but each day they release a new MMO game that is 10 times more addictive than playing something on PS3.

In China, all gaming consoles are available in the grey market. It's just that Chinese gamers will not receive official support, no warrant, no PSN server, no localization...
This problem is alleviated by Hong Kong and Taiwan market which receive proper service and also speak Chinese. That's why Chinese PS3 gamers often buy PS3 from Hong Kong, import Chinese localized games from Hong Kong and log in to Hong Kong PSN. Last edited by hellish; 11-02-2012 at 06:15 AM. |

If there is a ban it's not strictly enforced as you can buy games consoles easily on sites like TAOBAO and PAIPAI.
