The latest PS3 hacking will most likely have very little impact on the PS3 business as a whole in my opinion.
First off, it happend very late in the PS3 lifecycle. The PS3 is now about 6 years old now. It would be different if it got hacked very early in its lifecycle. The hacks also currently only work on firmware 3.55 or lower. Sony managed to block the PS3 hacking pretty good for about 1.5 years. It wasn't waterproof, cracked/fixed eboots got released over this period of time and there was also the TrueBlue dongle. But it wasn't as open as it is now. This resulted that several of people upgraded from 3.55 because they were tired of waiting to play new games. This means that less people are on firmware 3.55 or lower today. If i should take a wild guess, i'd guess that less than around 1% (or maybe even less) of all PS3s that excist today are on firmware 3.55 or lower. Of course downgrade is possible on older PS3s, but it requires you top open the PS3 and you need a hardware flasher. This limits the appeal in general compared to just doing a simple software hack or firmware file install. There are also people who will use CFW for homebrew only and buy all the games they want to play as well. So overall, i'd say that the PS3 hacking will have very little affect on the PS3 business. If the PS4 is being pushed forward, i'd say that it is mostly because to release before the Xbox 720, or release it at a similar time as the Xbox 720. I think I read somewhere that Uncharted 4 is coming out in 2013 for PS3, erm... I wish Uncharted 3 was the last. Meh, I hope Uncharted 4 is actually the last. I wanna buy Uncharted 2-4 and play them all without the worry there's a damn sequel coming. @hello345 , you seem to forget the reason why the hackers allowed PS3 to stay legit for a bit amount of time, it was because they/we had OtherOS now we don't... They just made things better now. ![]() Media Showtime Centre is awesome but I've yet to try it out. |

I just listed reasons for why this lv0 hack will not affect the overall PS3 business that much, resulting in that Sony must push PS4 faster than planned as the rumor claims. If my guess is right, this lv0 hack can currently be used on ~1% of all PS3s out there (not taking downgrade into concideration). The impact is small in that regards, so i don't this will affect when the PS4 will be released.

Sony said that the PS3 has some years left, so I don't think they will rush on the PS4 yet (not even with all this LV0 and CFW stuff out on the streets).
The Wii-U is not a real competitor in the new generation, and we don't have a date of release for the XBOX 720. Maybe, and I'm taking a long shot here, they will announce the release date by Winter 2012-2013, so that you can get the new piece by the holidays. If Sony wants to win the next generation console war, then they need to remove Hirai from office (and back to the software section, where he belongs) and start applying the success' formula from the PS1 and PS2 eras. Simple as that. By the way, do this guys (the journalist from the sources) are paid for writting ****?... damn, I want to write bull**** and get paid, too. |

In response to the thread: Not unless someone releases an exploit for 4.XX consoles to install CFW.

I might buy the next home PlayStation console but I have to keep in mind it'll probably have even less liberty and features than the PS3 did.
No USB transfers (pictures/video/music/gamesaves), no internet browser (maybe it's for the best since $ony never really updated it to today's standards the PS3 browser) or the Recovery Menu. Or even the famous OtherOS. It'd be kinda funny if $ony admitted they're losing their nerves with something like this. I don't believe they are. It's just silly media hype. Kevin Butler, where are you to make a joke out of this...
