Baking it evenly heats up the entire board to a uniform temperature. Heat Guns and ovens get the air and components hot all evenly. Not trying to say you are dumb, but man, that is a new method to me.

I understand about being desperate, cause I was desperate and at my wits end when I did the oven reflow, but everybody I spoke to that even uses BGA stations say that the oven method is the best homemade method because it evenly heats the entire board and no warping to a localized area will occur.

This is what the expert I talked to told me after successfully doing my reflow.

Oven bake is one of the home made fixes that have an actual % chance of working..

generally you would make some foil balls "3" of the same size and put them on a oven tray. then put the mother board on that in sutch a way that it is perfectly level.
then you bake it for a while (fan assisted ovens may be a bit hotter than non fan assisted ovens)

and the top of the oven will always be hotter than the bottom of the oven..

after you bake its usual to leave the oven door open and let the thing cool down before you remove it..

Its not an exact science and temperature variables arent exact. But compared to geting a hot air gun for striping paint and blasting your mother board with that it is a better option because do do atleast have some sort of temperature controll "although not all that accurate"

Ok, i'll try baking it and i'll update this thread with the results. I just tried a method with the easiest and least amount of work possible, and it DID work to an extent, the thing booted up again.

True that. Not hating on you in any way, I just never heard of anybody trying that method before.

Just follow that tut I linked to to the "T" and it SHOULD work better then.

Word of advice, cut perfectly square holes for the processors, so only they get the hottest. Also, shiny side out, so it reflects the hear back into the oven and not onto the components on the mobo.

Best of luck bro and looking forward to the update!

So the oven trick seems to have made it worse. Black screen on boot up and the fan doesn't spin up. I can't go into recovery mode or do anything. I'm pretty sure the ps3 is dead now.

Before you ask, yes I followed the guide correctly.

Damn. Did you cover the system 100% with foil shiny side facing out? Did you cut 2 perfectly square holes out of it for the processors? What temperature did you put it on and how long did you leave it in? Did you also let it cool off in the oven with the door open for 30 mins before you took it out and moved the board? While hot parts will move around on the motherboard because the solder hasn't solidified again.
