My PS3 slim is a 250GB one the motherboard is a sur-001 and it did once have CFW installed but because I was dumb I updated to 3.56 to go online ( this was a while back ) and now I regret it. So I need this PS3 to work as I am wanting to downgrade it either with a e3 flasher or get someone else to do it. Now my problem is that everytime I turn the unit on it just gives a black screen? Before this it said that 'The ps3 cannot be read and the system software must be reinstalled, press and hold PS button I think to restart system' So I did and after this there is just a black screen. It also said that insert a usb stick with firmware 'ERR' yeah it said that and not 3.56 or later strange right?

What I have tried

- Inserting another Hard drive but still the same thing
- Formatted all my hard drives on PC and tried inserting them and still doesn't work
- Tried without the hard drive in ( read online that it works )

Please anyhelp to save this poor ps3 will be appreciated

Hmm...i'm not sure this will work, but try this:

1.) Make sure there is no disc in your system.
2.) Try downloading official firmware 3.56 again and put the PS3UPDAT.PUP in this directory on the root of your stick (Create 2 folders that are just like this): PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP
3.) Hopefully, that will fix the issue. It might be that your firmware was corrupted or something.

@Kenpachi Zaraki , did you tried to get into recovery mode?
also did you tried if it's possible to reset video output?

1.Make sure the PS3 console is off and displaying the red light on the power LED. 2.Press and hold the power button for around 5 seconds until you hear a second beep. (Figure 1)

if the video output is reset you have to use the original av cable....this depends if your ps3 detects hdmi automatically.

resetting video might be useless...
