lads, i can understand that there is obviously a break through here! but one thing though, even if someone is on OFW 3.56 to be able to hack their PS3 they still need to have a "Flasher" from my understanding, which means they have to buy one and solder it to the heart of their PS3, correct me if I'm wrong. Wouldn't it be just more convenient to use the flasher to just downgrade to 3.55 and jailbreak more safely atm? Please correct if I have missed something from this news

Edit: I believe i now understand, so this is a great news for those who simply can't downgrade to 3.55 as their PS3 did not come with a firmware below 3.55 or 3.55 itself. If i'm correct :P

You could of downgraded with a flasher any time.
This info is irrelevant to you because you could do this before.

This is only relevant to people who started on 3.56+ with a model that still has lvl0 (not 0.2)

@toolz Ya just find someone to downgrade your console and you can jailbreak your PS3 with any legit CFW later yourself.

PS3 with minimum fw 3.56 with datecode 1A and 1B without metldr.2 very rare.

from what I have seen
1A was always 3.56 with old metldr , was no problem to install 3.55
1B was always metldr.2
I never seen 1B with old metldr , maybe just bad luck.

This is a step in the right direction. Hopefully this will evolve into a flasher-less solution soon.

Yes, but the console needs to comply to the two prerequisites:
1. Its factory OFW was 3.56 or lower.
2. Must contain Metldr and NOT metldr2

The above pretty much limits this discovery to the early to mid CECH-2500 models and older. After those, metldr2, bootldr2, and lv0.2 were introduced.
