Broken Ps3 Slim 2000a

My friend took his slim to a repair shop because it stopped reading discs. he gets it back and the guy says it was completely shot and he cant do anything. I offered to help him out and opened it up. Somehow this guy ripped the header off the motherboard that leads to the power/reset board.

He has already bought a new ps3 so it isnt mandatory that I can make it sustainable, but he does have a 250 gig hdd full of his data and wants to be able to do data transfer utility.

Is there a way to short the mobo into posting like a pc? to keep it running long enough for a data transfer? If I go for a full repair I know I can get a replacement power/eject ribbon but I don't think there are replacement headers, and I don't even know if soldering one back on would make it bootable.

Thanks for the help.

@Scottlvl73 , what i don't get is that only the drived stopped reading discs? , so for the rest the ps3 was working fine?

so you are missing the cable to the power eject board, and the header ( i guess you mean the connector on the mainboard)

if the controller was still synced the ps3 should start , and if the drive is empty, injecting a disc should also start the ps3 i think....

but maybe i misunderstood your post...

If you buy another Broken slim you can use the Parts from it to fix it.
I do not Understand What you mean though, Post some pics of the Broken parts, Could be an easy fix, The Drive is an easy fix for sure.
If its not turning on but has power, you can hit a certain Part of the Mobo with the BD drive connected and it turns on I found out XD

If it has a sweet spot like that to boot that would work. Getting it running indefinitely is a secondary goal I just need it running long enough to data transfer.

To the other question yes I am talking about the plug on the mobo. It's gone and so is the ribbon to the power/eject. I will upload a pic in a sec.

No controllers are synced to it as my friend bought a new one so I'm hoping I can start it via mobo just to get it running for a sec and i can't seem to find a replacement header to solder.

@Scottlvl73 still if you try to insert a game it should normally turn on, unless there's a disc inside..

since the ps3 is somehow still working i think that this repair guy f*cked the ps3 up....lol

why would a ps3 be shot if the drive can't read discs...

anyway glad you got it working so far, and don't throw it away. (the ps3)

After we transferred his data, he let me keep the console since it doesn't read disks, he can't use it. I think I'll end up jail breaking it as a project for me, I would like to try it but don't want to ruin my console. Have a separate ps3 that won't ever be online will make it a nice test bed for me and make sure my psn account is safe.
