Exclamation PS3 Stuck Restoring For 17 Hours :-(

Hi guys

I bought a 250gb 5400rpm hard drive to upgrade the 40gb one that come with the ps3.

First i deleted everything in the game data folder on the old hard drive to speed things up than i made a backup. Then i fitted the new hard drive and formatted it.

The problem is that now it come to restoring my back up it keeps getting stuck at 22% with 24 minutes remaining.

I've tried cancelling it and reformatting the hard drive, fitting a different hard drive and making a new backup of the old hard drive and restoring from that backup.

It been stuck at 22% now for 17 hours and I'm running out of ideas.

Does anyone know of an easy fix for this ?

Thanks

The data you're trying to restore might be corrupted. You might just have to kiss your info goodbye and skip restoring.

Thanks for the reply

The data on the old hard drive is ok and I've tried backing it up and restoring from the backups a few times just to make sure the backup file wasn't corrupted.

Is there any way i can backup just the save files ?

Thanks again

Try formatting the hdd on the pc with NTFS

Then install your CFW or OFW whatever it is.

Then try it again. Maybe its your USB, do you have a different one to try the backup on. Make sure its in furthest right port.

If you can get the PS3 to read it then you can transfer the save data to an external source. Other than that I don't know what to tell you. I've had to format drive on my computer and then reformat them on PS3. If you do that you'll lose your data.

Yeah sorry I meant the format the new hdd, not old one.

With old one in, use multiman and browse to hdd0:/home/00000000x folder

I would just copy whole folder. It has your save data, trophies and everything in it.

You can copy it back when you get your new hdd in. Then I just go to recovery and do option 3, and option 4.

Put your old HDD back, make a backup of the whole drive (!!) with FTP, install the new drive and only install the new CFW and the FTP server pkg and ftp the whole thing back and do a system recover afterwards to restore trophies?

Thanks for all the replies everyone

I forgot to mention that I'm on cfw 3.55.

I've tried formatting the new hard drive in my pc before installing in in the ps3 but it doesn't make any difference.

When i first put the new hard drive into the ps3 i get a pop up saying that it needs to be formatted, after the format process everything seems to be working fine, its not until i go over the the backup menu and click restore that it hangs at 22%.

The first time i installed the hard drive it got stuck at 1% so i went in and uninstalled everything in the game data folder, and that when it went up to the 22%.

Is there a backup restore in any other application (multiman....etc) that will maybe to a better job than the one installed by sony?

I've just re-read some of the replies....

Why would i need to reinstall the cfw, Isn't that flash and I'm only changing the hard drive?

Also I've been plugging the external hard drive into the first port (one on the left) can this really make a difference?

Thanks again

The new hdd needs CFW. That's what we mean.

Yes I always use port closest to blu ray. Farthest right.
