No PS3 user here in the Scene, has ever reported that the devs release malware (except for the dongle makers' malware, of course).

DRM dongles = Malware.

Frontpage updated with more info:

"Unauthorized software for the PlayStation 3 system was recently released by hackers. Use of such software violates the terms of the 'System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation®3 System' and the 'Terms of Services and User Agreement' for the PlayStation®Network/Sony Entertainment Network and its Community Code of Conduct provisions."

"Violation of the System Software License Agreement for the PlayStation 3 system invalidates the consumer's right to access that system. Consumers running unauthorized or pirated software may have their access to the PlayStation Network and access to Sony Entertainment Network services through PlayStation®3 system terminated permanently."

The consumer alert goes on to state that, "To avoid permanent termination, consumers must immediately cease using and delete all unauthorized or pirated software from their PlayStation 3 systems."

"In order to help provide a safe, fair, online environment, consumers who we believe violate 'Terms of Services and User Agreement' for the PlayStation Network/Sony Entertainment Network or the applicable laws or regulations of their country or region risk having access to the PlayStation Network and access to Sony Entertainment Network services terminated permanently."

They done some *formal* warning not mentioning malware just like you said.
But at the end of the day if we think about it, it's kinda labelled like malware.
Then again, being able to install anything means someone may trick you into installing malware. Remember the PSP emulator back in the 3.41 days?

And yeah, last I checked , that was a google translation error, no need to make such a fuss about it.

They don't care about devices that enable people with already modded PS3 to pirate more, they care about devices that can increase the number of modded consoles, making them unable to control users of said consoles.

Yeah i remember but sometimes is better safe than sorry. Even if google translator failed and me too...i think users will be a little more cautious. (i hope)

Banwave is a chance.

Malware = Malicious Software.
So Sony tell us that a costum firmware is malicious for PS3.
I (and millions others) disagree, what's malicious on PS3 is Sony themselfs.
They have to deal with the fact that nobody gives or will give a single %^*$# about what they say and they should quit their stupid statements.

I'm really glad I got this update from sony. I can't have malware destroying my machine!

I'll be right back after I delete all of my seedy homebrew apps and backups.

...mwahahaha...

P.S. f*ck cobra and true blue!

this is just an attempt by Sony to scare uniformed users from installing CFW. Tell them it will harm their system and steal their identity.... Sony knows we are very close to being able to sign 4.30+..... They are afraid of the masses coming on board once that happens.....

Move along people nothing to see here...

If you refuse all the above do not worry, installation of cfw is "optional"
they are not stopping you from doing what you want to do with the hardware, they just don't want CFW's on their network

It's like when the PC users surf the Internet and download everything they came after. Remember Windows XP and the website apps?, they were full of sh!tty malware and spyware code, trojans and viruses everywhere, with XP being so vulnerable (that was a golden era for us, PC hardware/software maintenance).

My point is, people get what they deserve for not reading a little bit. Here at Hax every post of PS3 Homebrew has all the information and instructions needed for the correct use of it. When the forum people suspects from some piece of code, they warn everyone here to stay away until it's confirmed to be safe to use it by advanced users with proper tools.
