Hackable PS3 Slims
New to the scene, from what I can tell you can jailbreak a PS3 as long as the firmware isn't higher than 4.20, yet you need to do it with hardware if it's above 3.55, is that right? Is the hardware route expensive or hard to do?
I'm curious as I might want to buy a new PS3 Slim (Not the really new slimmer slim), but naturally I won't know what firmware it comes with. (It's sold with a 160 gig HDD if that changes anything) Also I was told the PS3 can play PSP Iso now with Multiman, is this true? |

You have to be on 3.55 to jailbreak. So, if your system is currently on 4.20 you can get a hardware flasher and downgrade to the lowest firmware that your model shipped with. If that is 3.55 or lower then your in luck, but if your system shipped with a firmware above 3.55 then you are currently unable to jailbreak no matter what you do.
As far as playing psp iso...........I dont believe so, but maybe I missed something somewhere.........anyway, why would you want to play psp games when you can play any real game and not a modified psp game. |

Because the component cable for PSP isn't super-awesome, I figure PSP iso loading from PS3 would have better picture and possibly better resizing options on TV.
Hmm, probably not the best idea to risk buying one from my store then, unless there's a concrete way of knowing what firmware will be on the console depending on what's written on the box somewhere? |

buy new = 99% chance its too late for cfw
look for a preowned one. many second hand shops will let you test goods before you buy

Datecodes will help.
Search them on PS3devwiki. There is my app in my sig "WMPDT355?" which works out date codes for you, feel free to use it.
