Its a lil more complicated then just renaming to .mpg or w/e. MKV's contain segments which are in mpeg format. You have to take these segemnts out of it's container format (.mkv) so that the PS3 will recognize the mpeg files. **This does not work with all downloaded blu-ray hddvd rips as they may be encoded differently. Use Nic's FOURCC Changer to find out how it has been encoded. You can google nics fourcc.

Also, you can use Nero Media Home to stream to PS3, it encodes on the fly.
