Can't unbrick my PS3 (E3 Flasher), 3 beeps, red light (tristate trick not working)

Hi all,

Some info on my system. I have a PS3 Phat, CECHH04. It never had any problems and i had KMEAW CFW 3.55 running on it smoothly for a good year when my wife accidently installed an OFW 3.73 game on it.

So, i ordered an E3 flasher and a Trueblue dongel so i could downgrade it again and run 3.60+ games as well. The installation of the E3 flasher went fine and the downgrade worked as well. I then installed the 3.55 Trueblue CFW v2. Also still running smoothly.

The PS3 didn't however recognise the TB dongle, the red light on it stayed lit and in the system info, firmware still stated 3.55 and not 3.55 true blue dongle as it should (when booted with the TB dongle inserted). I also noticed that when i ran the 2.6 upgrade from the TB site from XMB, it would result in a black screen and a freeze while it should have asked me to insert the TB dongle in the USB port.

I started reading on the Net and found a post somewhere about this problem and this guy fixed it by downgrading to 3.41, then 3.15 and than back to 3.55 TB CFW.

So. I found 3.55 to 3.41 files (solidpsycho version, which states it is safe for Phats). I used my e3 Cardreader to perform the downgrade by going into service mode, install the 3,41 modified PUP and then took it out of service mode. But...

When the PS3 turned back on, 3 beeps, red light, immediate shutdown.

So, i thought i could just reflash the ps3 with my backed up dump and soldered a wire from the trisate point on the mainboard to the BSE point on the E3 flasher ribbon, so the PS3 would stay on and i could perform the reflash. It doesn't work and i can't get the PS3 to stay on. I already tried resoldering the wire to the trisate a couple of times to see if it was a bad connection and i also tried different GND points for the other end of the wire. But it still didn't work and i am unable to get the PS3 to stay on to perform the reflash, it keeps giving me the 3 beeps, red light and immediate shutdown. Holding the powerbutton also doesn't work to get into recoverymode, and i can't get into service mode by pressing power and then the eject button either.

So, my questions:

-Any idea why the wire soldering trick isn't working?
-other tips, suggestions, methods?

also,

-Anybody else have any experience with the TB 2.61 update giving a black screen and system freeze when starting it up?

Thanks in advance for your help, appreciate it

Marc

Make sure you have switch 1 up and the rest down.
Put the backup of 3.55 on SD card and into flasher.
Turn on ps3 and it should stay on if soldered wire correctly, and press start.

If it doesn't stay on, try and hold the start button on e3 while you power on ps3.

If you only have backup of before you downgraded, flash that backup, then continue downgrade procedure.

That's the thing, it won't stay on.

I have soldered the wire from the trisate point to the SBE point on the ribbon cable (also tried the alternate point on the e3 flasher itself), i also tried using various GND points on the MOBO directly to the trisate point.

Are there errors where this trick doesn't work, or can it only be a problem with soldering it incorrectly?

I tried holding the powerbutton, but it does the same: Powers up with one beep, 3 beeps, powers off and a red flashing light.

that's really weird. i was gonna suggest manual tristate (which you already tried by soldering tristate to one of the various gnd points on the motherboard) and apparently not even that works :/
what type of wire did you use? usually, wire from lan cables does the trick.
solder must be 60/40 and the soldering iron must be <40W.

my guess is it's the wire. give it a shot at lan cables wire. strip one and use the wire inside it

good suggestion, will look into that.

I used regular thin (1mm) electrical wire.

hi,

you sure you dont have a YLOD now!
if you use the wire from SBE to Tristate it will on normal PS3 halting with green-led!

if flexcable solder is maybe bad you also can solder or altern SBE to Tristate or simply Tristate to GND on motherboard.

if you like to get help, join the chat ps3downgrade

do i understand correctly that with a YLOD the tristate solder trick doesn't work?

I will resolder it tonight to see if it works. I find it hard to imagine that it is YLOD as the brick happened straight after the downgrade to 3.41 when i took it out of service mode. It was running fine before.

you can also test without E3 inside PS3 and solder tristate to GND if its same result. (also E3 Clip can make a short on NOR(if wrong mounted!), then same result)

i'll check the wirethickness tonight when i am home.

another question:
If i am able to get the PS3 running again, can i just the dump i made as is, or does it need to be patched first (read that in another thread).

can someone check and if needed patch my dumpfile for me?

again, thanks for the answers so far, truly appreciated
