Ps3 HDD Upgrade

Hi all,

I currently have a ps3 Slim 120gb CHECH-2001A. I am running Rogero CFW 4.3 v2.

I am sick of running out of room on the Internal hdd and looking to upgrade. Anyone have any thoughts using this hdd?

Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Don't touch Scorpio Blue drives, they have extremely tight spindown power saving profiles. They basically spin down within 2-3 seconds of inactivity. The result is freezes when browsing the XMB of a few seconds each time you don't move the cursor for a few seconds. Then there's the stuttering in virtually all games using them. For example GT5 is basically unplayable using a scorpio blue.

This is only true for the high capacity 320GB and above capacity models of which there exists only the newer types that do the above. The older model 250GB and below scorpio blue drives don't exhibit the problem providing you set wdidle3 to turn off the head parking feature.

...Basically, avoid.

I was using a 1TB 3.5 inch drive connected with a eSATA -> SATA adaptor cable. But from firmware 4.xx onwards these drives are causing problems for me so was forced to get a 2.5 inch drive again.

I got a 2.5 inch Seagate Momentus 500GB, they're pretty cheap relative to competition and don't have the tight spindown settings, they do spindown eventually but certainly not in the few seconds that the Scorpio Blue ones do.
