General Failure and Questions.
So I found finding information on certain things for modding EBOOTS and such scattered and with varying validness from ancient to current versions of tools and firmwares ((this is not a gripe just an observation) across the whole internet, not just here.).
But due to my lack of skills to compile this information into a useable skill-set or my general gung-ho/hash-bash nature I went for the 'just download tools and have a bash at it' approach a few times; Hey often you can actually get away with it!, in this case however, it doesn't seem so straight forward as i've failed to produce at every turn, thus i have some questions.
1 - When fixing an Eboot to work on 3.55 firmware, do you merely use a program like 'DarkEbootFixer', 'ASToolPS3', etc, fire the eboot into it and click 'fix'?, i've tried this with about 4-5 games and all my 'fixes' produced unloading black screens as a result; I realise i can just download fixed EBOOTS in order to make games work (which i have done for most games, but I wanted to do the dirty myself as it were, considering all the tools and such that seem to buckshot the news on various PS3 hacking websites i thought i could figure out the system that these users fixed EBOOTS I was downloading were created, and thus make my own.
2 - I was trying to get a PSN game called Legasista to work, but I discovered that PSN games are a bigger can of worms than even blu-ray games, i tried numerous tools that had buttons and clicky things that refer to 'packages', and got fairly blown away by concepts like encryption, n0drm, signing and such, and ultimately despite unpacking, messing about with various approaches and such, ended up with just more unloading black screen versions of the game; furthermore, i downloaded a crack-type-thing for Legasista, but it was apparently for 4.21 only, so i figure, maybe i could work some easy magic and just resign the 4.21 crack to be 3.55, again no dice there.
3 - DLC talk, i've seen loads of whining and nagging for DLC and general comments about it being a huge pain in the ass to get working, from what i understand you NEED someone to have previously, legally purchased the DLC, and uploaded the .rap files that their PS3 generates in order for ANY DLC to work(via ReActPSN), is this the correct observation or is there some secret/newer method for approaching this?
4 - CEX/DEX, I noticed the other day people talking about DEX consoles and how REBUG can dynamically switch between them, DEX seems to have certain advantages over CEX (such as running games via network emulation, etc), i found some fairly concise tutorials on how to get the DEX/CEX switcheroo working on the PS3 but decided to not go ahead with it, considering the endless black screen failures i had merely getting CEX games to EBOOT i figured trying to convert EBOOTS from CEX to DEX would leave me even more in the dark.
Thanks for reading this wall of text, this post is hopefully just to get some feedback upon the various mistakes i've been making and perhaps pointers in the direction of what i should really be doing.
