Hey guys, my name is shayne, im from canada and i just picked up a phat ps3 (model number: CHCHE01) (current update: 4.31) for a smooth 120 bucks. I have a phat PSP 1000 that I used with GODpro to run emulators. Im looking to do certain things with my ps3..

1. Run emulators and roms (NES, SNES, PSX etc..) through a HDD (Toshiba 750GB EXT HDD)
2. Run ISOs of ps3 games through a HDD

I have no idea where to start or begin, most of the research i've done has pointed to e3 flasher but im not brave enough to rip open my ps3, i've seen memory stick flashers but i couldnt find thorough reviews on them.

Now because i have version 4.31, you could imagine how sick i am of surveys popping up every link i click.

Is it even possible to use those cfw 4.31 updates? are they real? when i finally found one, i disabled my internet connection and tried updating my ps3 with it through storage media to no avail. i tried safe mode and that didnt work either.

Is it even possible to downgrade from 4.31 to 3.55, im thinking the only way to successfully jailbreak a ps3 is thru a 3.55 downgrade.

Like i said im new to this, is it possible to run emulators and roms on a ps3 without linux? without a 3.55 downgrade.? whats the highest emulator the ps3 can run? (ps2, gamecube, n64, xbox?)

3.55 is the ONLY option. You'd have to open the console to downgrade. No other way around it. If you look around on this site you'll easily find what you need to buy in order to downgrade.

Again, there is absolutely NO other way and there most likely never will be.

PS: Anything else you read about it being possible is a lie. I don't care WHERE you heard it from.

Every CFW 4.31 that can be installed on OFW 4.31 is fake, you'll need to downgrade your console by using Progskeet (not E3 Flasher, that's for NOR consoles, CECHE is a NAND console) and since you don't know how to do it, you'll need to look for someone to do it for you.

You can use a lot of emulators on CFW: SNES, NES, MAME, PS1 (official) and PS2 (official) and I think there's more.
There's no N64 (I think someone is working on it), Xbox and Gamecube emulators.

awesome help guys, i have no idea what a Progskeet is, wheres the best place to get it, are there any guides available. if i have to rip my console apart i will... lol

it would be easier, cheaper and probably quicker to get someone to do it for you.

you just need to look

but check to see if your console can be downgraded.
the new ones cannot (super slim. with the sliding top bdvd access)
and 3000 & some 2500 slims cannot downgrade
