With Sony aggressively bundling and price cutting the PS3 and PS Vita during the US’ busy Black Friday, hundreds of thousands of gamers have bought themselves a Christmas present they won’t regret.

Sony has announced that the ‘Ultimate PlayStation Value Bundle’, which included a 250GB PS3, the Uncharted Dual Pack and inFamous Collection for $199, sold out at retailers. Bundle sales rose 15%, and total PS3 sales (including hardware, software and peripherals) grew by a considerable 9% – so much for needing the PS4. Overall, more than 525,000 PS3s were sold during the Black Friday week in the US. By comparison, the 360 sold 750,000 units over the BF weekend.

Meanwhile the PS Vita amassed a not too shabby 160,000 sales during the week, with many of the bundles reportedly selling out.

Jack Tretton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment America, said:

We’re very pleased with the Black Friday sales results, especially the incredible reception for the PS3 and PS Vita bundles. The demand was very strong which quickly depleted our inventory across retailers nationwide. The PlayStation brand generated significant revenue and year-over-year growth at retail because of our focus on what gamers love most in combining amazing hardware with great games and digital entertainment.

my vita bundle was on order for £219 and between being on order and finalized they put the cost up by £30 so i gave them the finger and cancelled and will order from someone else lol

Nice marketing move, they are trying with all this bundles to get out of stock ASAP.
Wonder why?..it's pretty obvious.

I bought a Vita btw AS bundle but here in my country = No black friday.

Got my Vita for £100, which is in like new condition and came with a 4GB stick. Guy at work said he just didn't use it.

Just aggressive marketing against the introduction of the Wii-U.... We have a lot of $ony PS3/Vita advertisements on TV here in the Netherlands the last 2 days..... sure, has nothing to do with 30 November I think?

Note. 5 December we have Sinterklaas, a kind of early Christmas with presents also...

...Actually their Black Friday week sales were awful and that website has under-reported the Xbox 360 sales and just given the US figures.

The Xbox 360 sold just under 1 million for the week. (975,000)
The 3DS sold something like 600,000
Even the old original DS outsold the Vita
160,000 for the Vita on Black Friday week is nothing short of abysmal, by abysmal I mean abysmal not bias abysmal. Do some research and check previous Black Friday sales numbers for consoles\handhelds. If you're doing 160,000, you're console even doing "ok". It's selling like a dog.

The Vita is almost certainly dead within the year, out of holiday season it's not even been doing 40,000 a week on average. It's last week before Black Friday was about 60,000 which sounds like an improvement, but it isn't really because it's holiday sales season so all consoles are up in sales. The Vita is up much less than the others. For example the 3DS that week did about 300,000

The Vita is an updated PSP, and with so many people owning a PSP when i dont understand why you would get another handheld with the PSP being still well used. I wont be getting one
