Why I can't run homebrew on a OFW, yet?
Hello guys
![]() I've a PS3 Slim model CECH-2001. Back in 2010 Psgroove released a series of videos showing how the Sony PS3 security failed in Console Hacking 2010 available on Youtube, and this guys show step by step why the PS3 security fail and the importance of this "keys". If this security keys are compromised and are released often (last was v4.31), one thing that the FAQ's and Tutorials doesn't explain it's why you can't run a signed homebrew on a OFW? If we have the "keys" why we can't kick the door open for homebrew's? The Tutorials and FAQ's only say you can't but it doesn't get in to detail of why you can't. All I care about this stuff it's to be able to copy my saves that are locked inside the PS3. Thank you. |

But where the "Sony need to release a new hardware to fix the issue" fits to the history?
I understand that it can't be done on the new models, but with the old models still possible, right? |

I think the first issue was that $ony used a constant "random" value for their random value, i.e. they didnt change it with each console as it should have been, and so hackers could find the private keys.
Sony then changed the private keys and fixed the "random" flaw, so now hackers cannot find the private keys that way any more. Sony also released new consoles with new unhackable hardware. So whilst the old consoles can still install cfw, the new ones cannot. With the old console hackers can find the keys for lv1 and lv2 I think and from those create new cfw for older consoles. But as new console have lv0.2 you need to be able to decrypt it, which noone has done atm. So yes old models can still install cfw as we can see with the latest rogero 4.30 cfw, rebug and the others which are already available for those consoles.
