Im trying to update my ps3 to ofw 3.55 so i can put a cfw on. When i try to update via usb it says "corrupted data error 8002fc5". I formatted usb stick to fat32 and then made PS3 and UPDATE folder. I put the ofw 3.55 pup in the update folder and then tried to update on the xmb. says it can't find anything so i put it in recovery mode and tried it from there thats when i get the error. any help would be greatly appreciated. my ps3 is a cechk01 model. and my firmware right now is 3.41.

did you rename the pup to PS3UPDAT.PUP

no i just bought it from gamestop like 3 days ago used.

I read somewhere that i should use the first usb port on the ps3 and i restored the ps3 using quick restore and it still doesn't work. ive downloaded the firmware numerous times from my desktop and laptop. I even booted into windows 7 and tried but it didn't work. I just can't get around it..
