There's nothing worse than an ex-smoker telling you to quit.
I've been smoking about 12-13 years and want to quit, just don't get the pleasure I once did from it. It is just a dirty addiction now pure and simple. ...One day soon hopefully I'll be making an attack on it. |

Cigarettes:
I had my first cigarette at age 12 or 13 and started smoking properly at age 16. 10 years later I don't smoke cigarettes but between then and now I quit about 5 times. Im done now and couldnt care less about cigarettes. I do, however, enjoy the occasional cuban cigar because well, I can still appreciate the taste and art of a good cigar and only rarely inhale. Drugs: I experimented on several drugs in my early teens but stuck with weed for a long time. During that period I failed two grades in high school so I stopped and finally made it through. When I stopped two of my friends stopped with me and the rest all carried on and I still know them all today. Guys I swear...I have literally watched my friends get dumb. Its been happening before my very eyes and it is incredibly sad quite frankly. One guy in particular was quite a bright young man. Nowadays he forgets EVERYTHING (seriously...everything), he slurs his speech, and is as lazy as they come. Nowadays he smokes whenever he can. Hes not the only one. Everyone of my friends that have been smoking weed since high school are generally slow with most things. I don't judge anyone who smokes weed so please if you have taken offense to this that is not my intention, but whoever says it doesn't do anything to your mind and is not addictive is fooling themselves. The fact that it isn't as bad as other drugs is indeed a fact BUT...that is why it is more dangerous. People smoke a ton of weed hiding comfortably behind that fact and before they know it a quarter of their brain cells have been shaved off their head and they can't do without weed on a daily basis. Please don't attack me. Im only stating facts and from what Ive witnessed before my very eyes. Alcohol: I enjoy my beer. Not every day...but I enjoy and take my beer very seriously. I like the taste, I like the craft, I like it. Some of you may have picked that up from the pic of myself I posted with my trusty 1000ml mug . Do I drink anything else? Not really. Certainly no spirits unless its a spiced rum and coke but I havn't had that in 2 years. I want to actually start making beer professionally as I do it as a hobby currently. Anyways, I wouldn't say its an addiction. There are times when I am very busy and realize I haven't had a beer all month. Just as much as the crisp taste of a good beer is to me, so is the art of crafting and brewing one so it truly isn't entirely about "taking the edge off". That is just an added bonus which I do obviously enjoy as well. Depending on my mood I actually do ENJOY having a clear head.Having said all that, the way drugs affect us differ from person to person. Most people it affects very much in the long run and some it doesnt. The problem is as long as there is that small chance of it not affecting you in the long run, people happily take that risk naively thinking they will fall under that category. My question is, is the risk worth it? How can you be sure that you are not someone that weed or drugs are going to take its toll in 10 or so years which by the way, comes sooner than you think? If theres one thing I value its my mind. ************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* Insert fist>face. That's like telling a depressed person to cheer up. "Really? Oh I didnt realise it was that easy. I'll just cheer up then"

Here is a few links from respected sites that could further help educate anybody who likes to know what they're talking about when debating marijuana. They cover everything from the fact that marijuana doesn't kill brain cells to marijuana curing cancer. Some of this research was done at places like Harvard University and University of Berkley California. http://www.webmd.com/mental-health/n...t-damage-brain http://medicalmarijuana.procon.org/v...stionID=000235 http://www.endalldisease.com/harvard...-cures-cancer/ http://patients4medicalmarijuana.wor...wn-since-1974/ Even more interesting is the reason why marijuana was made illegal in the first place and what led up to it. Surprise, surpise it was politically, racially, and financially motivated. Here are some VERY racially motivated quotes by the man who almost singled handedly made marijuana illegal. Also a post to his wiki “There are 100,000 total marijuana smokers in the US, and most are Negroes, Hispanics, Filipinos, and entertainers. Their Satanic music, jazz, and swing, result from marijuana use. This marijuana causes white women to seek sexual relations with Negroes, entertainers, and any others.” “…the primary reason to outlaw marijuana is its effect on the degenerate races.” “Marijuana is an addictive drug which produces in its users insanity, criminality, and death.” “Reefer makes darkies think they’re as good as white men.” “Marihuana [sic] leads to pacifism and communist brainwashing” “You smoke a joint and you’re likely to kill your brother.” “Marijuana is the most violence-causing drug in the history of mankind.” http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_J._Anslinger "Pot is illegal because William Randolph Hearst ran a smear campaign against marijuana in the 1930's to protect his interests in the timber industry because hemp was poised to replace wood as an inexpensive raw material for the manufacture of paper." You can pull your scientific links out all day but I smoked everyday for 16 yrs (3gm a day at my worst, .5gm a day at best) Since Ive stopped smoking my short term memory has improved 10fold and my clumsiness and dopey decision making has also improved noticeably. Obviously like drinking, if done in moderation it will have little to no effect but done regularly or excessively it will most certainly have ill effects. I will say that none of the effects I felt have carried on once the THC left my system.. it just got to a stage for me where my brain felt clouded 24/7. I needed to be a better father for my boys and I most certainly am since stopping! |
