I want to modify the eid0 on my slim so that my ps3 thinks it is a phat with nor and then I will install a lower firmware than what the ps3 can handle.

The reason I would do this is because I want to activate the led diag mode when my ps3 is in this state but I want to know if I can restore it by flashing a dump of 3.55 with the syscon checks patched out, and then resetting the hashes.

I believe this is the proper way to restore it, but confirmation never hurts.

You should use a spare hdd. So when you want to restore, just flash your dump and put original hdd back.
Edit your dump with a hex editor, flash the edited dump, then do FSM install of the low firmware you want.

But I think it will brick before getting to the FSM install. I haven't tried, but just my guess.

I will definitely use a spare hdd as I have 3, one for games I want linked to my psn account, one for homebrew and one for situations like this.

Rather than hex editing a dump I was thinking of installing a 3.55 firmware with the checks patched out and dumping that. This should provide the same effect, correct?
