What firmware was it on?
If it is on 3.55 or lower, you can do this fix. http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/RSOD_Fix If it is on 3.56 or higher, you need to downgrade it with a hardware flasher. Then do the fix. What model # is it?

I presume your console is the CECHK/L/M model? If the console is on 3.55 or below you might recover it with the Factory Service Mode RSOD Lvl2Diag.self or maybe the NoRSOD update pup file. (This is not recommended anymore but as long as you change the firmware after the install it should be OK)
If it is over 3.55 you would need a flasher tool to effectively downgrade to 3.55 and recover using the above method(s). *NOTE* This maybe a hardware fault with the Samsung NOR and may not be recovered at all. Check the PS3DevWiki here (http://www.ps3devwiki.com/wiki/RSOD_Fix) for more info. or post back. EDIT - Damn 420 is fast

either you test recovery mode with a low firmware or you make backup with flasher and occupy both roses

just try in recovery a low original firmware. it will tell you then which firmware can be installed on your system. but not that minimal test pup, as it only tells you which is the factory installed one. just test 3.55 ofw and you will see. then you will need the notheros pup and try either the lv2diag self or if it does not help search for the fix rsod pkg. this will recover rsod surely, even it comes back later.
