Testing Possible faulty Ps3 Slim Power Supply

Hi, is there anyway that I can test out the ps3 power supply with a multi meter and that would tell me whether the power supply is dead or not.

Any info on this would be great, did a search but can't find what I'm looking for.

Thanks

for the fat ps3, the pinout will mostly be:
1. switch_on (3V3)
2. Ground
3. Ground
4. +5V
5. +5V

for the slim it will probably be:
1. switch_on (5V)
2. Ground
3. Ground
4. +5V

check with your meter first, the 5V should be on, no matter what.

can you explain how did this power supply "died" ??

It might not be dead at all, its common on ps3 slims when people open it that they do not turn On anymore, everything looks like its the power supply but it isn't.

If this is you case please let me know, I might be able to help you.

And where exactly do I put the pins to test the Power supply? I must be doing it wrong if you guys seam to think so.

Would appreciate that help.

Exactly! This is what we need to know, if you are able to tell me what did you do BEFORE the ps3 stopped getting power I might be able to help you.

Did you open your PS3 and did anything inside ? Or the ps3 just stopped getting power out of the nowhere ?

If you allways leave your ps3 on standby all the time then its most likely one of your electrolitic capasitors wich are about 20 cents from radio shack or 17p from maplins, your looking for a black or blue cylinder shaped part that is stood upright near the transformer, if its black it will have gold writting on it and say something like '' 16v 2200uf '' and '' RLS 105oc 0628 '' And if its blue the writting will be in silver. On the top part of it you'll see shiney metal with a cross shape in it, if this is rounded on the top and not flat then its blown. or if its pushed up loads there will be some brown type black stuff seeping out the top, if so then it needs changing.

If you want to see a picture of what I mean then just put the codes I gave you that may be wrote on it into a search engine and click images it will come up and you can see what im on about.
But if nothings turning on at all its gonna be a 99 % chance its this.
