http://gunowners.org/fs0404.htm
read that about gun control This means that each year, firearms are used more than 80 times more often to protect the lives of honest citizens than to take lives Orlando, FL. In 1966-67, the media highly publicized a safety course which taught Orlando women how to use guns. The result: Orlando’s rape rate dropped 88% in 1967, whereas the rape rate remained constant in the rest of Florida and the nation 74% of felons polled agreed that "one reason burglars avoid houses when people are at home is that they fear being shot during the crime. Concealed carry laws have reduced murder and crime rates in the states that have enacted them. According to a comprehensive study which reviewed crime statistics in every county in the United States from 1977 to 1992, states which passed concealed carry laws reduced their rate of murder by 8.5%, rape by 5%, aggravated assault by 7% and robbery by 3% Kennesaw, GA. In 1982, this suburb of Atlanta passed a law requiring heads of households to keep at least one firearm in the house. The residential burglary rate subsequently dropped 89% in Kennesaw, compared to the modest 10.4% drop in Georgia as a whole. Twice as many children are killed playing football in school than are murdered by guns. That’s right. Despite what media coverage might seem to indicate, there are more deaths related to high school football than guns. In a recent three year period, twice as many football players died from hits to the head, heat stroke, etc. (45), as compared with students who were murdered by firearms (22) during that same time period. CDC admits there is no evidence that gun control reduces crime. The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has long been criticized for propagating questionable studies which gun control organizations have used in defense of their cause. But after analyzing 51 studies in 2003, the CDC concluded that the "evidence was insufficient to determine the effectiveness of any of these [firearms] laws." statistics show that there is less violence and crime with more firearms, so how would gun control help anything??? you explain that to me.. Well it would be nice to see some statistics from you that are not biased, but never mind, I will work with what you give me lol
Simple question comes to mind immediately after reading first sentence... 'Guns are used 2.5 million times a year in self-defense. Law-abiding citizens use guns to defend themselves against criminals as many as 2.5 million times every year—or about 6,850 times a day.' 2,500,000 uses of a gun against another human is ok in your eyes? Plus I will assume that in those cases, the person they were defending themselves against was using a gun so that then doubles the score, so again... 5,000,000 uses of a gun against another human is ok in your eyes? |

i doubt many of those the person attacking had a gun.. if a man tries to rape a woman and she uses a gun in self defense.. A person being attacked by an animal.. A store owner being robbed uses a gun to stop a thief.. just because a gun is used doesn't mean it was fired or hurt anyone, many of the cases the criminal stops just because the defendant has a gun.

The fact is the USA has been far too long in the tooth with guns, an outsider trying to force a ban on guns is like an outsider forcing democracy in the middle east.
the best you can hope for is minimising the likelihood of unstable humans obtaining them (both guns and democracy lol) |

I am saying that guns are a weapon designed for one purpose, and that is to take a life. I have Never had to resort to using a weapon to protect someone, and I have protected more than one person in my long long lonngggg life lol. If you need a weapon (NOT a tool btw) then that's your call, just stop trying to justify your fixation with badly put together statistics that you cannot support with any real validity. |

not sure if you are all aware or not but UK violent crime rate is about 9% while USA violent crime rate is about 4.5%
people are more afraid of performing violent crimes when they know the person they might be attacking may have a gun. people who want more gun control don't own guns most of the times so they are afraid of them because they have no way of protecting themselves against them. ************* [ - Post Merged - ] *************
many times you don't need a weapon to protect someone, but some people for example woman against a much stronger male in a rape situation need a weapon.. definiton of a tool "A device or implement, esp. one held in the hand, used to carry out a particular function" how does a gun not fall under that definition right off of google? wise sir? |

its such a toss up situation, more guns will lead to more innocent deaths, anyone with a brain can figure that out, but with the U.S. military purchasing 1.2 billion rounds of hollow points (rounds that cannot be used for war outside of the U.S. *geneva*) would it be an unwise idea to get rid of guns in the U.S?
If you live in the U.S. i fear for you all, and the rest of us as well, cause if things goto hell down there, and your government turns on you, it's gonna be bad. If not, then lock up ur guns and don't use em unless your homes are in danger or you are a hunter. Also i have been mass murdering people in C.O.D. for years now and don't have thoughts about doing it in real life. That was a pretty weak statement from the NRA. |
