Bought a PS3 Controller how can I tell if it is a knockoff?

I bought a PS3 controller black color, I think it is original I can tell from the smoothness of the joystick.

Also the buttons (Start, Select, Home, square, triangle, circle, X) sink a little more when I press them and the black color is slight light color. Moreover at the back label says DC 5V = 500mA.

However the one I got with the fat PlayStation 3 the black color is more black and weights just slightly a bit more and the buttons don't sink as much? At the back label says DC 3.7V = 300mA.

So how can I tell for certain if it is or it is not a knockoff?

Search the serial code on the internet?

It can be that they make slight changes to the controllers in time.

I got bogus controllers trying to be cheap and learned the hard way. Then I found this afterwards:

Usually on the underside to the right of the screw hole is a tiny pin hole, this resets the controller (forgets PS3 its sync'd to) if its legit, or does nothing, because there is no button behind it, if it's fake IIRC.

Weight difference might be that one is with vibration and the other not?

True: if it says Dual shock 3 and it doesnt vibrate then they've been stiffed, but if it doesn't then its just a six-axis.

I did look at the model number and I did find it on the net in the community eu playstation.

Do they also put original/real model number on the knockoffs?

my dualshock 3 is also 5v, i think the other one is 3,7a because it does not vibrate,
that would also explain the weight difference,
and also why do you care about this???
i mean if its works as it should why the f*ck you even care about this??
