4.21 rex can use a dummy usb-stick to simulate a BD-Rom with multiman.

v04.10.00

Added full support for 4.21REX (REBUG) firmware
Added support for 4.21REX in DEX full mode (DEX flash + DEX lv2 kernel)
Added support for PS1 disc backups for 4.21REX CFW in DEX/DEX mode
Added support for direct-disc-access for 4.21REX CFW in DEX/DEX mode (data CD/DVD/BD discs)
Added support for flashing 256MB NAND *.EID0.NANDBIN backups
Users with broken BD drives can use 4.21REX in DEX mode with fake BDEMU stick/image for 100% game compatibility
In dex mode of course

NO!

You need at least the logic board connected in order to be able to do anything. Without logic board, the PS3 is SOL. You should be able to do something with your connector though, like, keep the cable in place with cardboard or something. I'm pretty sure you can still use the part that snapped aswell, I've had a 60GB PS3 which had the connector snapped and I still put it in place just fine.

Or is the only way to get a donor bd-rom and try to repair the connector and pair the drive?
