Can PMS (ps3 media server) work with cfw 3.55?
I have a jailbroken ps3 with cfw 3.55.
I would like to watch videos from my laptop on ps3, and I came across PMS. I first tried using FTP server to copy video files to the ps3, but there seems to be no folder to which the files can be transferred to. And even if I find or create that folder, I don't think it'd solve the problem because the file that I'm trying to play isn't supported by PS3 (when viewed on usb, it says "corrupted data"). Then came PMS, which I heard is capable of playing any type of file as long as it can be played on the computer. My ps3 is connected to my laptop using an ethernet cable, and of course, it doesn't have a direct internet connection. When I run PMS, it says "No renderers were found." I would like to know if there's a way to have PMS recognize my ps3. I tried searching whether or not the PMS works with ps3s that have cfw, but came up empty. Does anyone have knowledge on this? And also, if it's not possible to use PMS on a jailbroken ps3, I would like to know if there's a similar program that will work similiarly as the PMS (play video files that aren't supported by PS3 hardware). Thanks in advance! |

PMS/UMS works on jailbroken consoles. There is a setting in network connections about media servers or something, make sure it is turned on.
Also you can use PMS inside of showtime if you want. |

Internet connection and media server connection are both enabled. I just checked that the FTP connection works without any problem. I even got to share files using windows media player 12 (though unfortunately, there's a network error when I try to play the files. The list of shared files shows in entirety).
I keep on getting "No renderers were found" error, regardless of what I do. It's really frustrating me. What more can I do? Please help! |

You need to make sure that the media server option in the internet settings is on (PS3) And check the Settings on PMS to make sure its going through the correct network, Mine goes through Hamachi network occasional, Although I like Universal media server better then PMS.

oh wow.. I tweaked so many settings, restarted both the laptop and the ps3, and now it's working! However, there's just one more problem now. While the files play, it's EXTREMELY slow. The sound plays flawlessly, but the picture is extremely delayed, and there's absolutely no smoothness about it. Is there a way to speed up and make the files play smoothly? or can it be due to the limitations of my hardware? It has i5-2520m processor with intel hd 3000 (integrated) graphics card.
What can I do? ************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* omg.. This is kind of retarded. High definition movies are played smoothly whereas the files that are lower in quality comparably play very slowly.. What is going on! |

Use showtime via MM. Transfer files via ftp (laptop) to your PS3, a map in hdd0 (MOVIES) create the map....... Put in the movie, acces via showtime / MM.. no need for media server. I dont understand why you making this so hard on yourself? Up to you though, have fun with PMS.

i've had the same problem with PMS and UMS and cfw 3.55 no matter what settings i used the videos always played a bit jerky, both on wireless network and wired through router.. but before when i was on firmware OFW 4.11 PMS was smooth as (same console and same laptop win7 etc) this is solely a problem with 3.55fw i believe, you may need to update to cfw 4.21 or 4.30 to play smoothly using PMS/UMS

PS3 media server works fine on my MFW, OFW, and even my 360. Keep in mind and "jerky" video people may be experiencing can be related to the PC or network. Transcoding HD video on the fly and streaming it requires a pretty powerful machine and a fast network

on 3.55 with pms its jerky when im playing a brrip mp4 so its not transcoding at all, using the same movies all mp4 on 4.xx + FW its totally smooth/flawless, using same laptop and network and same ps3 nothing changed only the firmware.. my pc doesnt even struggle when streaming so i know its 3.55 on the ps3 end...
::forgot to add on 3.55 using showtime and PMS to stream from my laptop mp4/mkvs works pretty much flawless so thats another option...
