i believe all eboots can be found via google.

1) attempt to apply updates then create eboot fixes
2) create eboot fixes then apply updates
3) create eboot fixes and forget about updates as they can not be applied.

I have downloaded various updates via ps3_list but didn't know if they were of any use.

it all depends, as some games dont require updates and some do. also some require eboot, param, and update. it all depends. if you need help

here is an example

google "homefront 3.55 fix"

and then you will usally find what information you are looking for.
