Weird, my CECH21xx does not start without the board plugged in, I will take this in mind the next time I do a slim ps3, I will keep trying to turn them on without the board, and see how different consoles react to it. I know mine does not start :o

The 3K series with it's 6pin power/eject board ribbon cable unplugged also works fine. I don't have a 21*** with SUR-001 mainboard so cannot test that one myself

lol, all my work for nothing, so there's no secret, these models will work fine without the board.

@d2damax , if you ever want to fix your ps3 here's the pinout.

HSW-001 diagram



the red and green led i can't tell if i'm correct, i don't have the physical board to test it, but for the rest it should be accurate.
