Dual Boot: Getting rid of the E3 sata station
Hello all
![]() I have a simple question. I'd like to enjoy the e3 flasher's dual boot feature but I really hate that I have to connect the sata station to power and I found something that might do the trick without needing the station. I found this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/12V-5V-Power-...#ht_1397wt_978 Which seems to me that it can be used connect a SATA hard drive to the eSATA port on the e3 flasher. I understand that 3.5" hard drives need an external power supply or a Molex connector to operate, but most modern 2.5" can be run with just the power provided by the SATA port or a USB port. Assuming I have 2 hard drives, one for OFW and one for CFW as needed for dual boot, both of which are 2.5", can I simply use this to connect the hard drive to the PS3? |

I'm sorry I'm not sure if I understood you right. Did you mean you used a cable like that to connect the HDD to the PS3 without an external power supply and it worked?

![]() The sata end I connected my ps3 hdd and the e-sata end to e-sata port on the e3 flasher. I powered the hdd using external molex power supply.

![]() I don't know, maybe I'll order one of those cables and try it myself. As I understand, you need a Molex to provide the 12V supply needed by a 3.5" drive whereas a 2.5" can operate solely on the 5V provided by the SATA port on the PS3 and laptops. |
