Surely you meant to say: Back up your purchased games, didn't you? (say "yes Andy").

Start with the model number of your PS3. Some CANNOT be downgraded even with a programmer.

Oh, and can you solder WITHOUT f-ing everything? And are you willing to spend about £100 downgrading it?

Spend £50 and someone will do it for you. To this end, whereabouts do you live?

A

Its an 80GB fat.

He will be able to downgrade it, but he will need hardware or a person to do it for him.

He can "start" reading here: http://www.ps3hax.net/showthread.php?p=263662

Teensy++, ProgSkeet & E3 Flasher are all products that can read and also program the flash memory inside your PS3. Their cost range from £60 to over £100.

It is possible to also purchase 'solderless' clips that then require no soldering skills, but their use is a bit hit and miss.

These products provide pads on their PCBs which you then wire from the programmer to test pads on the motherboard of the PS3. There are 52 wires to connect up.

If you have never soldered, do not have the right kit or have limited experience soldering then my advice to you is DO NOT attempt it. 99% chance of damaging things.

Now, be warned and listen to this carefully: The process of 1) reading the flash, 2) patching the flash and then 3) programming the flash CAN RESULT IN YOUR PS3 BEING BRICKED. Bricked with NO WAY BACK.

But, this forum offers it's member a checking service whereby once you have read the flash memory you up load it for someone to check (verify).

Warning: NEVER REPROGRAM YOUR PS3 WITH A PATCHED DUMP WITHOUT VERIFYING IT FIRST.

You have been warned! Also, this is not an easy path. If you have any doubts, then for half the cost of one of these programmers, SOMEONE CAN DO THIS FOR YOU!

Good Luck!

Andy
