Hi All

I have a old phat ps3 40gb which is currently on fw 3.50. The blu ray drive went about 2 years ago and I haven't used since. I sure I can now start using again if I can hack it but have just a few questions. I have seen the tutorials I can use to get it to 3.55 but if I can do this will I be able to play online??
Also seen some articles about lv0 keys but cannot see anything about this in the tutorial i been looking at so assume i do not need this??

any help would be greatly appreciated and apologies in advance if this is a stupid question

i think you want to go to rogero firmware, don't know the exact number lol, i'm still on 3.55 kmeaw.

what is the problem with the drive, a faulty laser?

forget about the lv0 keys thats for experienced devs/hacker
well when you go on rogero 4.30 v2.05 you are able to go online
but its not safe... that means that you can get banned especially when you use homebrew while signed into PSN

download OFW 3.55 first and install it
then install rogero 4.30 v2.05

yep i think the drive went on it, it will play for about 10 mins and then the the disc spinning noise gets really loud and the game/film freezes.

ok so if i do the ofw 3.55 and then go rogero 4.30 v2.05 then I should be good to go. When you say homebrew does that incl;ude the managers for games off hdd??

Yes it includes any managers. Make sure if you decide to go online you are signed off any time you use multiman or iris manager

can someone help me? I dunno what the hell im doing im new to the whole scene but it looks so cool that ive got to try it. im a complete noob. either I can try to hack my ps3 console myself or send it someone elses way who knows what they are doing. I have an old phat 80gb on 4.31 OFW and a 2-3 year old slim on 3.72 OFW although the blu ray drive is bad on the phat one but any help/tips/advice is much appreciated.

You need a flasher. You could however post where you are and there maybe someone who could flash it for you

thanks bro I live in Muncie, IN i'd like to get whatever mod I need that still allows me to play online I know its risky and u must be careful but I think how most hackers/modders get caught or banned is that they play with their mods online all the time. like how u see guys on gta4 with all the kick ass mods I want that and whatever else it offers I would drag my balls thru a mile of broken glass to get these mods cuz they're so ****ing cool well I wouldn't do that literally put I'd pay the guy to help me out that's for sure.

wow respect i'd never drag my balls that far through boken glass that far

anyway you have to be on 3.55 OFW to install a CFW
the only way to get to 3.55 is by using a hardware-flasher(e3-flasher, progskeet, teensy++)and a FSM-dongle

follow this guide if u plan on flashing on your own

you can also let some do that for you(downgrade service)
check @playerkp420 's downgrade service out
also you have to know if its a NOR or NAND console
slims are always NOR but some old phats are NAND

thanks dude u helped me out now I have a jb2usb dongle do I have to format it to fat32 before I put any software on it or does it come preloaded onto the usb? I know i'm probably an annoying noob but how else to people get the answers they need? they ask questions and research but im so new to the scene im confused.
