Error 8002F2CF After changing hdd

So I have a working 3.55 ps3 and i went to upgrade from a 40gb hdd to an 80gb(pulled from a E01 ps3) and when i try to install the 3.55 firmware i get 1 of two messages,
A serious error has occurred, (8002F2CF) Please contact sony tech. support.
OR
No applicable update found

Every time i use the same method; PS3 < UPDATE < then firmware PS3UPDAT.PUP and sometimes i get the error but most times its the no update found. I've tried two different flash drives formatted on ntfs(also tried fat32)
And whats even more weird is when i put back the original hard drive it does the same thing, i cant even get that to work when it should just still pick it up...Any help?

did you try to rebuild the database in recovery menu or format the drive? If that doesn't work you might want to try and format the drive with a pc.

This page here has helped me solve many PS3s that would not take updates.

The obvious should always be addressed first.

The USB flash drive is formatted to FAT32.
The PUP file is name correctly and in the correct file path. PS3/UPDATE/PS3UPDAT.PUP

I could not find that error code in the list or errors on the wiki. Are you sure that is the error?
