Red face Playstation 3 Turns on then off, blinking red light? Help please?

Hi everyone,

As above my playstation 3 turns on then turns off again after about 3 secs then i am left with the blinking red light on the front.

Does anyone know what this could be? i have read it could be a fault with the harddrive or the same issue with the YLOD? Just wondering if anyone could shed any more light on this or if anyone has had this before, before i start opening up and trying to fix it.

many thanks for any replies

Time for a reball ( permenant fix), DO NOT reflow its only a temp fix and very risky.

reflow your only melting and strengthing the cheap a$$ solder sony has on there, you want lead based solder and new thermal paste ( arctic silver )

If you know how to reball have at it, or go spend 45-60$ at local computer repair store to have them do it. Its worth the money to get the reball, dont be cheap and try to repair it yourself with a reflow and heat gun. That method never last and only causes more problems.

Hopefully you take my advice and get back into gameing , the repair shop usually does it in same day, if not a couple days. Had mine reballed and it was done and fixed in same day.

Send a message via AIM to TizzyT
Reflow is more like melting and make proper bonds again on the BGA using the already existing crap solder, so it will happen again. Reball replaces the crap solder as to more permanently fix the problem.

How fortunate it must be to be in a location that provides same day reballing service. The stores around me advertise such services but then when I call them up its not available anymore d-.-b lol. Wish I was that lucky.

it won't solve your ylod, if i'm correct the first fat ps3's have the complete firmware stored on the nand.

you can remove the hdd, or bluray to see if is is causing the ylod but i don't want to give you any hope...

the fan is probably spinning for a moment also...
