new ps3 blu ray drive still wont pull in the disc

so my ps3 stopped reading blu rays, i thought it must be the drive so i brought a whole drive and swapped the boards, now the new one is doing the same thing, just wont pull the disc in, driving me nuts it is, was hoping i get a response from here as this site look pretty active, im hoping i can get a bit of advice on troubleshooting, like trying to find out if maybe the pcb board is busted, i read you need to try out a demo and if that works then its not the board?? not sure what the proper name is for the pcb board? ive just ordered a new ribbon as im now out of ideas, some people are saying you cant swap the boards but ive read you can, any ideas guys please

forgot to mention my old one stopped pulling the disc after i tried reasembling it, even know it was all reset properly, also this drive is new and hasnt been taken apart so its nothing to do with not being alighned

@leroy1985 , what is your ps3 model number?

EDIT: if it's a drive for the fat ps3 then you can try the following.

the drive is powered by +5 and +12V , my idea is that the 12V is missing somewhere down the chain, no 12V is dead motors, the blue led will probably blink if you are trying to insert a game but for the rest nothing happens.

here's a layout from the logic board for a fat's drive. (60GB version)

you should measure 0-1 ohm between the both points 1 , and the same low resistance between the points 2

as an alternative you can unclip the 60pins ribbon cable, flip the drive over. (power cable still plugged in) turn on the ps3 and measure for 12V at point 1 and 5V at point 2.

i'm sure the 5V will be there.

again this only applies to the fat ps3.

refreshing to get a detailed response so thanks, ive posted in about 4 forums, only answer so far, problem is i dont have the reader to measure, but nyeah youre rite i press eject it blinks but thats pretty much all it does and yeah its a fat 60gb, the only response i get from it is if i hold down eject for like 15 seconds in wich i hear an unhealthy noise wich is impossible to explain by words lol, for me anyways, eerrrrrrr, lol like its trying its hardest to do something, not sure what to do really, whats the reader i need called maate, sorry but you are dealing with an amateur here.

so basicly what this reader does is tell you if theres power coming from the motherboard or to the logic board if there isnt then its a deeper problem? clever little tool

also is the power cable, not the ribbon i think thats the data cable? is the power cable the same as the 360 drives one, the old 360 i mean, can i use my 360 power cable and plug in to ps3 to test if its the cable? and does it matter wich way the cable goes around, the power cable i mean, the one you labeled 1 2

ive just ordered a ribbon cable just to be sure as there only a few quid anyway

model number cechc

You can't use the cable from your xbox. They are not the same.
But you should check the ribbons and cables first.
It may be the sensor that detects the disc going in. I think on that model there is a little sensor. See the little green square thing in the pic below:

thanks for the reply, im gonna see about getting a multmeter from someone to borrow, is there anyway other than having to buy the nsensor to test it works? the ps3 turns on when its on standby and i insert a disc half way, still doesnt get sucked in, can anyone confirm if that means its working, just to save me some cash, so far ive brought a whole drive, and a ribbon cable ill be pretty gutted if none work, but then i suppose at least it can ease my mind knonwing i tried everything, what about the board is it true if a game plays, like a demo on hard drive then the logic boards snt the problem and is working correctly?

cheers

guys can i ask you or anyone else who answers what youre first thought that it would be? or could the symptoms be any of those things, ribbon, power cable, board? cant be the drive cuz its new and would be a damn coinsidence it does the exact thing?

just found this that answers part of my question posted by you player. that helps becausei thought to myself that even know you have to marry the boards surly i can just connect the board the new drive came with just to see if the drive acts differnt and tried to pull a disc, but its exactly the same, with both logic boards, i wonder whats the chance its something to do with the mnotherboard connections, i suppose the only way to test that is with multimeter?

As long as the chip with the bd info is still ok, then your psn games and demos will still work. Since the motherboard still sees the logic board and they are married.

But there is a drive chip that does the other operations, that could be bad.

It is hard to say what the exact problem is, without testing some things.

Obviously swapping the drive with a known working one, will let you know if it is something with the drive.
Checking and swapping cables and all connections.

i am starting to suspect the ribbon cable now, if not ill buy the power cable then give up i suppose

@leroy1985 , your sensor is fine. else the blue led would not blink while inserting a disc.

so you say no matter what logic board you connect, married or unmarried the disc still won't go in?

i say measure if there's 12V on the power cable (on mainboard) see pic.
