PS3 Slim CPU IHS Removal
Hi quick question- is the IHS removal on a slim the same as on a Fat PS3? (Work all around it with a razor or ground bga tool)
All the tut's I found only show the Fat CPU IHS removal. |

It's the same as of fat PS3.
You might need to be careful while removing IHS

I only did it once before on a fat ps3. It seemed a lot easier.
The corners seem really stuck on the slim cpu ihs. The sharpened BGA tool goes in easy towards the middle, but wont budge in the corners. |

If it is the latest slim (cech25xx) then the new thin chip (CXD2992BGR) which has above IHS black plastic around it,you can not remove because the IHS stuck under the plastic.

No it's a 1st gen slim. I did finally get it off when I decided to heat up the corners a bit with the heat gun. Still was a pita. I never saw that mentioned for cpu just the gpu. I don't know why the corners a hard if the use the same adhesive all the way around...
There was only a trace amount of paste on the cpu, most had dissolved down the sides on the chip. The guy before me must have dumped a pint of MEK over the top of the IHS when he cleaned it. Anyhow all's good now, Thanks! |
