OK ive been messing about with smb on my win7 machine, and i got it to work so i want to pass on the info for people who might be interested using smb.

First of you have to make a password for administrator, it wont work unless you have this set even if you turn off the no password in share settings.

with that right click on the folder you want to share with Showtime, choose properties- sharing- share, in that new window choose everyone the press on the ADD button apply and OK.

Now move over to your showtime app, go into settings, bookmarks, add new bookmark. then type a name for the bookmark, then add the share it must look similar to this -> smb://192.168.0.1/F/MP4
just fill in the address that you have and the share drive and folder etc
well it works for me and im streaming 1080P MKV flawlessly,
