Questions still lingering after research...

Hi all,

I am a total noob with some wishes for my PS3, and I have searched these and other forums looking for how best to fulfill them. Most questions I have gotten answered this way, but there were some few I didn't, or where the answer I found was so old a new fix might have showed up since then - here's to hoping anyway...

Some background first - I have fat 2007 PS3, with original firmware 4.11 installed, so I know I can have the firmware downgraded and the console jailbroken should I decide to. (Lacking both necessary skill and tools, I'd outsource the actual job mind you). It has never been and never will be connected either to the web or the PS store, so any blocking from there is not an issue either.

My ultimate goals, and thus whole purpose of any jailbreaking, are as follows:

1. Being able to play NES, SNES and Megadrive games on my PS3.
2. Getting rid of the cursed Cinevadia error.
3. Retaining a fully functional BD and DVD player, even with new titles.

It is my understanding that by jailbreaking and installing a given custom firmware, I can have the first two, but at the expense of the third. Is this still correct, or has there recently come any fix for the BD issue?

If there isn't, is there some other way to play retrogames and/or getting rid of Cinevidia problems without sacrificing Blu-ray functionality?

Thanks in advance.

You will need a FLASHER and FSM dongle, or get a member of the forum to do it for you (for a price) to get your PS3 downgraded to 3.55 OFW, then you can install Rogero 4.30 v2.05 and play emulators, it has cinavia removed, and you can play BD movies just fine.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

Really?!? Even new Blu-ray discs?

Because in the previous threads I checked, only the Blu-ray's that had keys that worked up to OFW 3.55 were still functional. That is the answer I was hoping to get, but that I didn't actually think I would!

If it also works with Retroarch, then Rogero 4.30 v2.05 here we come!
And I'll have someone do it for me, for a fee of course.

Yes, that info is dated AFAIK.

Rogero 4.30 CFW is based on 4.30 OFW.

Newer blu rays should work, I dont have any new ones to try....

Thanks again!

Then I'll just need to have new Blu-ray playback confirmed (I need to be absolutely certain here, the BD functionality cannot be compromised in any way) and we are good to go!

You are awesome, thanks once again!
That is really, really promising. Fox usually DRM's the hell out of their discs, so that is a relief.

Sorry about being a pain, no Cinavaidia error and Retroarch would be awesome, but BD functionality up to current trumps both of them.

But it now looks like I can make preparations to having my PS3 jailbroken...

From my knowledge and IIRC...
1) There are plenty of emulators for you yo play retro games on, one of which are metioned.
2) Cinavia is disabled/patched on most CFW/MFW I figure, even then there is always showtime.
3) Yes latest CFW/MFW are able to play latest games (at least most if not all).

PS: Do plenty of research and also if needed get plenty of practice (soldering), if downgrading is what you look to do.
