You are correct from what haz367 posted he did forget the ./ in his advice but he is still correct if you are getting errors while running create_hdd_region.sh try umounting the usb and remounting it as r/w. I had only come across having to remount the usb to r/w on fat and not the slim. It would help to know what model ps3 you are working on?

Glad to hear you got it all to work! I have never installed gentoo but am willing to learn if you need help. I like debian, but to each his own.

Ive been having the same issues, from what I can tell my hdd is not getting partitioned properly by emer_init which wont disallows create_hdd_region.sh from working properly. I dont think the unmounting issue is affecting me (though it was...) I noticed that it was a problem because chmod returned an error about read only. However, I circumvented that by using wget tinyurl.com/createhdd. Any tips for me going forward? I have downloaded the CFW and tools from this topic and am going to give it another shot.

Also does anyone have the 1/8th or 22 gb cfws? I have a 1TB hdd so I dont think I want to use the 1/2 although I am going to test with it.

Which would you guys recommend the 22 gb or a 120 gb?

Update: I updated to the custom firmware 22GB option and I still get the same error when running create_hdd_region though. I restored ps3 when after i upgraded to that firmware

Here is the 1/8 hdd pup.

Are you doing the "Restore ps3" from the Recovery mode? You must do it from Recovery for the hdd to partition itself.

This week i have decided to get gentoo on my ps3.the first problem was the livecd did not boot so i did it all from the petitboots shell.the install went good
But i can not boot it.i am getting a error message that i dont have the partition when it boot my kernel.it is quite odd... When petitboot boots i have my install at /dev/ps3ddx and i have a entry to the os(kboot.conf). When i start it it starts the kernel and loads the initrd but after that /dev/ps3dd gets lost.the install it self was easy and i can run my install in a chrooted env..... if someone want to know how i did the install from the petitboot just let me know.
