Ok so i bought a 3.50 Slim with a broken BD a few weeks back and it finally arrived... Now where do i start?

Will i update to 3.55 then install one of the CFW's ? or can it be done from 3.50.

As for online.. Is it too risky to connect these days? I've seen a lot of threads saying they got banned... btw i don't play COD or cheat.. does it matter? can Sony detect CFW.

I think that's everything for now :P

ok make sure you download the official sony update 3.55 from this site dont download from the ps3 it will take you to 4.31

then once you have the 3.55 firmware installed install a cfw i suggest kmeaw

no you need to be on the latest firmware to access psn so after you install 3.55 cfw install rogero or rebug 4.31 cfw i think rogero is 4.30 DONT UPDATE TO THE OFFICIAL FIRMWARE be carefull

You can update from XMB directly from 3.50 to any 3.55 Rogero or even Rogero 4.30 2.05 .. both of which contain the noBD check

Going online = get banned.

Sony can detect CFW.

Thanks for the replies... So i can install CFW directly.. awesome.. i figured CFW = No online... i already have a RGH so it isn't a problem.. I'll leave my legit Ps3's for online.

@caymera I'll meet you half way, most CFW's nowadays can be installed over any OFW 1.00-3.50, but @Console_Wrecker : Just to be sure update to 3.55 from here: http://www.ps3hax.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=557 then if you want you can install 4.30 CFW from XMB.

Look into http://tortuga-cove.com/forums/viewt...8de901afb9803e rogero 4.30 CFW 2.05 (I use this one) and read up on QA flagging before updating to 4.30 CFW.

I ended up installing Kmeaw 3.55 (needed to get my root key).. then updated to REBUG 4.21.2 REX EDITION..

Another question:

I see rebug has a updated version (REBUG 4.30.1 STANDARD).. is it possible to update from 4.21 REX to 4.30.1 Standard... or am i good the way i have it now?

btw i'm currently on DEX with HDD BD emu (yet to test a game).

You're pretty good the way you are now.

4.21.2 can do everything 4.30.1 can do, but 4.30.1 standard isnt "REX" so you are better off with what you have if its working for you, esp if you are using DEX features.
