External WD HDD not Working
What model number is your PS3?
CECHK04 What firmware is your PS3 on? 4.30 Is it a hardware problem? Not From the PS3. Is it a software problem? No, I don't think so. Are you running CFW? Yes What CFW are you running? Rogero Is your console bricked? No Have you ever downgraded your console with hardware flashers? Not Myself. Have you tried searching the forum for someone experiencing the same problem before posting? Yes. Describe your problem: I Bought a WD Elements SE 1TB (WDBPCK0010BBK-03), USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 Compatible), its formated to FAT32, works fine on computer. I connect it to the PS3, Leds are on so its powered, disk spins so no problem there. Still it is not recognized by the PS3. At least not by itself. (see next question) What have you tried to do to resolve this issue yourself: Read this somewhere and tried it... It actually works sometimes.. but i think it can harm the disk too... so its not a real solution... 1- First, plug the usb 3.0 cord WITHOUT the disc plugged in, just the cable WD provided you. 2- Then, grab the disc with one hand, and the cable with the other one. 3- What you have to do is insert the plug on the disc reaaaaally slowly, and STOP right before its fully plugged. 4- You will see the disc starts spinning, and the little white light will flash. 5- Finally, press it firmly to the end, and voila! recognized at full speed, no stupid hubs, or anything. Any help will be well accepted, thanks. |

Is it the VCD issue again? or faulty cable?
We have had several of these threads now, and the main issues are hidden VCD partition or crap USB 3.0 cable.

DEFAULTDNB This disk has no VCD, VCD only come on WD My Book and My Passport, this is the WD Elements.
The usb 3.0 cable... as i said.. if i do what i said in the last question, connecting him halfway to the disk entrance, let the disk power up and then plug-in the cable to the full of its extent, it sometimes, when done right, recognizes and u can play from the disk, and copy things to and from the disk... so i don't think its the cable... im guessing WD ****ed up compatibility with something... EDIT: btw i formated using HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool at 65k clusters. ************* [ - Post Merged - ] ************* DEFAULTDNB my USB 3.0 cable is the same cable you said you used on the thread Simonbuck just gave me.. When u formated ur passport without the vcd and worked fine. Last edited by italiano21; 03-04-2013 at 10:44 AM. |

Small Print from the specs pdf on the WD site
USB powered These drives require no power adapter— they are powered directly though the USB cable.* *An optional cable is available for the few computers that limit power to the USB port. http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/...h/1/a_id/5379# |
