Bought a Jailbroken PS3

Hey!

So I bought a jailbroken PS3, but I'm complete new to hacking ps3s.

The guy I bought it from mentioned it was at 3.41, then upgraded to 3.55 and then hacked to run 4.21.

He said it does not have multinet (I don't know what that is), so I need to install all that to get it to play games through backup ISO files.

I am told there is now a hacked version of 4.30 or 4.31, so what should my next steps be? I just need help being pointed into the right direction!

Thanks!

PS. The guy suggested I go to rebug.me, so maybe that's what he used to jailbreak it?

You need multiman or iris manager to play your backups ....the latest cfw are rogero & rebug 4.3x and also a cfw 4.31.....I myself am using rebug cfw4.3x and have had no problems with it...all games work....one word of advise ...if you plan on playing games online you will most likely be banned from psn so be careful...there are lots of tuts on the forum...have a read and enjoy your new ps3

Thanks for replying!

Thing is, there are so many tutorials that I don't know where to start =/.

What tutorial do I need to upgrade from 4.21 to 4.3x or 4.31? Is there a multiman tutorial I can use?

I just need to know where to go/what to look for so I can get started =).

I will never go online. When I hacked my Wii there was a way to actually disable online so you never mistakenly went on, is there one for PS3s?

Downgrade to 3.55 Then upgrade to whatever 4.xx CFW you want.

But would this downgrade require a hardware flashing? Because the upgraded firmware was done by way of hacking and not updating through the online store. It's core is either 3.41 or 3.55.

I bought this jailbroken ps3 instead of a normal or new ps3 because I wanted to avoid physically installing e3 flasher and the like.

Hi,

if I were you, I would just go straight from what you are to Rogero 4.30 CFW v2.05. You don't need the QA Flags as just said previously to prevent a brick because the Rogero CFW 4.30 has a patch to prevent brick. So you just take your USB Key, create a folder PS3, then UPDATE (Inside PS3 Folder), then you put Rogero 4.30 CFW v2.05 into the UPDATE folder and rename it to 'PS3UPDAT.PUP' (and no there is no E in the name). Once it is done, plug the USB to your PS3, go in Settings tab and update from a USB Key.

Good luck!

Thanks a ton! These steps have helped organize my head (I felt like a lost sheep until I read this haha).

The guy I bought it from said he prefers a clean install, do you think it isn't needed? I want to do things the best way, but if there's really no difference then I can go ahead and do it this way (it sounds easier). Will it erase the previous CFW and then write this one on?

Often people says to go back to 3.55OFW (Original Firmware) then go ahead to the CFW you wish. That is what they call 'Clean Install'. If you wish to do it that way you can, instead of putting Rogero CFW in the UPDATE folder, put the 3,55OFW and after put the Rogero.

But don't forget! 3.55 OFW has no patch against the brick mentioned above! You DO NEED the QA Flag. I would feel more secure to flash Rogero directly from the CFW you are.

Good luck!

=S Well I don't want to risk a brick, so I'll go with your suggestion. And what you said sounds really simple!

Any last minute tips or suggestions before I go ahead and do this? I'll be using this tutorial:

h**p://***.ps3hax.***/showthread.php?t=49973 (Nicolas's Rogero CFW 4.30 NooB Tutorial)

By the way thanks a lot for helping me with this!

By the way which multiman is newer 4.03.2 or 4.18.00? And in the tutorial it gives a choice of base or full, what's the difference?

And finally, after I update the new CFW, do I have to worry about someone putting in a disk and it updating firmware beyond 4.30 automatically?
