Format the entire drive as I recommended HERE, then partition it in 2.

Most AVI's do work on PS3, I have tonnes of them and they all work. Only badly encoded ones fail, re-encode or redownload/convert to MP4 for best results.

When you use the MBR layout seeing 1.6TB on ^2Tb drives is normal, open up the 3rd-party app I suggested and format it to FAT32. Make sure to lower the cluster size. Once done Windows will now recognize the full capacity and you will see 3.63TB in FAT32 format. You can now create unallocated space and create further partitions from there.

Here is a screeny of what you are trying to accomplish (fully tested and works on PS3). Please pay attention to Disk 2.

VCD horsesh!t never actually "showed up" on my WD passport, but until I used the format utility I posted a link to my PS3 couldnt see my drive, no matter what.

I formatted my drive with easus, minitool, swissknife, none worked....

For the love of god just try the solution I posted in the 3rd post of this thread....

What have you got to lose?! and if it resolves it it could have been resolved a week ago.

The only thing I can tell you at this point is to lower the cluster size of the FAT32 partition. If nothing else stated on this thread works there is always the option to zero fill (one pass is good enough in this case) the drive and then try again. That will remove any manufacturers partition/bloatware.

your hdd youve purchased is to big for the ps3 to recognise, it can only recognise up to 2tb's. So im affraid its only good for storage of games cos I had the same problem with a 3tb hdd, I try'd partioning it an formating it using swissnife but had no joy at all. In the end I just use it for storing games that I hardly play anymore, so when I do want to play one I have to transfer it back to my 2tb hdd an play it that way...Theres no way it can be done, not even with command line...Hope this helped..

My apologies for the low quality. If you look at the image I attached you will see that is says 3363866 MB free. It is equal to 3,285GB or 3.2TB.

Final thought:
A command-line utility like DISKPART for Windows or my preference cfdisk w/ *nix distro will delete hidden or otherwise manufacture partitions, e.g. EFI (ESP). This is faster than zero fill (would take long for 4TB, or could skip sectors). Once your drive is truly zero'd then all you need is a USB enclosure that supports 4TB and the FAT32 format steps that I mentioned = money.

OK after 3 days of Formatting my HDD Is back to stone age.. write zero format and now I have used GPart Disk to format my HDD in MBR layout into 1.8 TB (FAT32) and 1.8 TB (NTFS)

I am using USB Powered Hub for 4TB HDD but I have already made up my mind to get 3.0 USB hub powered version and see if its work

@ deus0x82 : can you shed some light on command cfdisk w/ *nix no harm in giving last try

you are totally incorrect as many are using 3tb ext drives with our ps3s including myself and I have 3 of them formatted ALL to fat32. (no partitions)

Please check your info before spreading misinformation.

@Ron36 : DEUS0x82 & other active member like you helping Newbie like me and other to resolve this issue.

Based on DEUSX082 recommendations I have formatted my External 4TB HDD on write zero format and with help of GPart Disk to format my HDD in MBR layout into 1.8 TB (FAT32) and 1.8 TB (NTFS) but still not showing up on PS3

So I am pretty much made my mind to get a USB powered Hub 3.0 and try my luck with it

What I am confused how come DEUS0x82 and Ron36 external HDD 3 & 4 TB is showing up on PS3 ??

Appreciate your response towards this and if you have any set of instructions which can help

Cheers mate
