Sony can't be serious...can they?

Sony is so damn shady. Received a surprising email a few days ago. "We can't access your funds in order to renew your PS+ subscription." After everything they've done they were planning or charging me? Thank god I pulled out my Credit card info when I had the chance.

Goes to show even on a banned account they're willing to hit you with a charge if your CC info is still on your account. For those who are still playing online with cfw...get rid of your billing info.

Probably just some house keeping in their systems that they haven't gotten to. Not defending them per say, but its not like they were going to keep the money after all if they did draw funds... even if they did, its easy to resolve one way or another.

Don't use CC on PSN.
Don't go online with CFW.
Do not trust Sony network.

Pretty easy.

Yes let's all crap on Sony instead of reading the terms of service. If you actually bothered to READ you would know that PS+ auto-renews unless you specifically uncheck auto-renew.

NOTE:

The PlayStation Plus subscription will renew automatically. Every time you or one of your associated Sub Accounts purchases any kind of subscription, the automatic funding feature in the Master Account is set automatically to “ON.” Note that some subscriptions, for example PlayStation®Plus, are not available to Sub Accounts nor to users under 18. If, on the renewal date, Automatic Funding is set to “On”, your payment method is registered with us and your wallet does not have enough funds to cover the subscription charge, your wallet will be funded automatically from your registered payment method with the greater of the minimum top-up amount or the renewal cost. Funds added to the wallet are non-refundable. The Master Account holder may change this automatic funding setting to “OFF” at any time. However, the setting will return to “ON” upon subsequent purchase of any subscription, so setting your automatic funding feature to “OFF” may not effectively cancel your subscription. In order to stop receiving a subscription and avoid being charged, you must cancel your subscription in the Account Management area. If the credit card is not registered, the wallet does not have enough funds or [Automatic Funding] has been turned off, your PlayStation®Plus subscription may not be able to be renewed.

It isn't the fact he's complaining about auto-renew, but it's on a banned account, not a active account. So they were charging him for something he cannot access.

To be honest, it should be set automatically to OFF.

Just like a cell phone contract or any other contract, they renew automatically. Though I agree if you can't access the service you shouldn't be charged for it. Still doesn't change the fact he could have turned off auto-renew.
